Fire Service Training

The fire and life safety training programs offered by the State Fire Marshal's Office include:

Basic Fire Investigation Course

This one-day course is designed for first responders in fire service and law enforcement. The interactive lecture covers fire causes (accidental and intentional) and investigation methods, and provides the opportunity for student questions and participation. Advanced Fire Investigation Course

This four-to-five-day course for fire service, law enforcement and local fire investigation teams involves hands-on investigative training in:

Students are divided into teams to investigate different fire causes. Deputy state fire marshals act as coaches and advisors throughout the training. Contact the State Fire Marshal's Office for further information.

Basic Fire Code Inspection Course

This one-day course is designed for those new to Montana's fire code inspection process. The course covers the fire code and Administrative Rules of Montana, and how they work and interact with other applicable codes. Contact the State Fire Marshal's Office for further information.
