Land Board
Attorney General Bullock is one of five members of Montana's Land Board, a panel more formally known as the Board of Land Commissioners. Other members are the governor, state auditor, secretary of state and superintendent of public instruction.
The Land Board is charged with overseeing the management of 5.2 million acres of school trust land in the state. It is responsible for deciding how best to generate revenue for the trust from school trust lands. Examples include:
- grazing and farming leases
- timber-harvesting leases
- leases for oil, gas, and mining operations
- easements for projects like power lines, roads and private driveways
- fees for recreational use
- cabin site leases
- land sales and exchanges
- commercial development
The state Department of Natural Resources and Conservation carries out the management decisions of the Land Board through its Trust Land Management Division.
The Land Board usually meets at 9 a.m. on the third Monday of each month in room 303 of the Capitol. However, the meeting room may change so check the meeting schedule for further details.
