Department of Justice Debuts Updated Website

HELENA - The Montana Department of Justice debuted an updated, reorganized website this week, Attorney General Mike McGrath announced Wednesday.

The site - www.doj.state.mt.us [changed to www.doj.mt.gov on 7/12/2005] - went "live" early Monday morning, December 16.

"The department is very proud of the new site," McGrath said. "Our goal has been to create an attractive, accessible site with useful information for visitors. I think Montanans will agree that we've done that."

While the previous DOJ site was organized by division, the updated site is organized into categories that accurately reflect the scope of the work of the Department of Justice.

• Crime Victim Services - Topics include the Office of Victim Services and Restorative Justice, the Crime Victim Compensation Program and the Child Protection Unit.
• Driving in Montana - The category covers nearly every topic related to driving in the state, including vehicle titling, license plates, driver licensing, speed limits, seatbelts, speed limits and driving records.
• Gaming Regulation - Topics include gambling statistics, the Gaming Advisory Council, compulsive gambling and tribal gaming compact.
• Law Enforcement - A comprehensive list of law enforcement-related topics, including the Sexual and Violent Offender Registry, state crime lab, computer crime, the Montana Highway Patrol, background checks, homeland security, drug enforcement and others.
• Montana Lands - Information related to the Montana Land Board, water rights and the Natural Resource Damage Program.
• Opinions and Legal Resources - Information covers attorney general opinions, including pending opinions and guidelines for requesting an AG's opinion.
• Safety and Prevention - Topics include seatbelt use, consumer protection, the Great Falls hospital merger, the tobacco settlement and others.
• News - Press releases and meeting notices.
• About the Department - General department information, including contacts, bureau and section information and special programs.

The site features colorful "banner" photographs of Montana sites and landmarks including Glacier National Park, Beartooth Highway, Square Butte, historic Bannack, cliffs of the Missouri River, Mount Haggin and Going-to-the-Sun Highway.
