Online Access to Vehicle Registration Information Convenient and Secure
HELENA -- Attorney General Mike McGrath announced today that Montana businesses now have access to vehicle record information online. The Vehicle Search service is available to banks, credit unions, car dealerships, insurance companies and other businesses that are authorized to access the information.
The new service can be found on the state website at www.DiscoveringMontana.com [changed to mt.gov on 1/30/06] and on the Department of Justice's website. The service allows authorized users to instantly search for and view vehicle record information including owner information, title history, registration information and more.
"This new online service gives financial institutions and car dealers fast, easy access to the information they need to do business," McGrath said. "The Department of Justice is committed to constantly improving the services we provide to Montana drivers and to expanding online services when appropriate."
Motor Vehicle Division administrator Dean Roberts noted that personal vehicle record information is not available to just anyone who is curious. The Vehicle Search service is accessible only by legitimate businesses that have been approved and authorized by the Department of Justice.
The Vehicle Search service is the result of an alliance between state government and the private sector. It was cooperatively developed and is supported by the Montana Department of Justice, Motor Vehicle Division, the Montana Department of Administration's Information Technology Services Division, and Montana Interactive, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of eGovernment provider NIC (Nasdaq: EGOV).
