Montana Highway Patrol Starts Annual Recruitment

HELENA — The Montana Highway Patrol is recruiting officer candidates to begin the annual MHP training academy next March.

“This year and every year we encourage interested women and minority candidates to apply to join the Patrol,” said MHP Colonel Shawn Driscoll. “This is a noble profession and we want people who are committed to public service.”

The first step for potential recruits is to take and pass the Police Officer Selection Test. This year, the test will be offered in Helena on August 23, Sept. 9, Sept. 27, Oct. 7, Oct. 18 and Nov. 14.

For details about the test and other requirements, Driscoll said interested candidates can contact the Patrol’s recruitment office toll-free at 1-877-8-PATROL (872-8765) or visit the MHP website.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have either a high school diploma or a GED. They must be U.S. citizens and must be Montana residents at the time they are sworn in as officers. Other requirements include a valid driver’s license and three year’s driving experience.

Applications will be accepted through November 15. They are available from Montana Job Service Offices and the MHP Headquarters in Helena at (406) 444-3259.
