DOJ: News Release

Cybersafety Site Honored by Western Attorneys General

HELENA – The Montana Department of Justice’s “Safe in YourSpace” cybersafety website was honored with a WAGGY award this week at the annual gathering of Conference of Western Attorneys General at Seattle.

The Montana site received the award for Best Consumer Outreach. The selection committee said the DOJ “has taken Internet safety to the next level” with the Safe in YourSpace pages. The awards were handed out by a review committee representing attorneys general offices in Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada and Utah.

The pages — featuring a teen snowboarder “surfing” the Internet — include information for young people, parents and educators. The site features a glossary of terms, links to national resources and information on cyberbullying, Internet predators, instant messaging and social networking sites.

“Safe in YourSpace is an easy-to-use, well-designed site,” Montana Attorney General Mike McGrath said. “It’s a great way for young people and the adults in their lives to learn more and stay safe online. We’re very proud of it.”

Safe in YourSpace went online in May of this year. It was created in cooperation with the Montana Safe Schools Center at the University of Montana. The design was by ElementL Design of Helena.
