Billings Driver Exam Station Begins Appointment Scheduling

HELENA – Motor Vehicle Division acting administrator Brenda Nordlund announced today that, beginning April 13, the Billings driver exam station and its travel stations in Columbus, Hardin and Red Lodge will switch to scheduled customer appointments.

“Billings is one of the largest and busiest exam stations in Montana,” Nordlund said. “We strive to provide quality customer service in a time-efficient and positive manner. Appointment scheduling will help us provide better service to each and every customer.”

According to Nordlund, feedback from customers who already use appointment scheduling in Helena, Townsend and Bozeman has been very positive.

Beginning next week, there will be two options available for scheduling an appointment. Most appointments, such as written tests, out-of-state license transfers and completing some types of the driver education programs. Appointments for behind-the-wheel driving tests (including driver education and commercial drivers) or Stage III vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections must be scheduled through the MVD Customer Service Center at 1-866-450-8034.

Regardless of how their appointments are scheduled, The website offers details about required documentation, fees and other important information people need to know before their appointments.

“We realize that many people drive long distances to our offices, so we want to be sure they know what information they need to bring with them to their appointments,” Kristine Thatcher, Field Operations Bureau Chief, said. “We want to save our customers the frustration that comes from long lines and not having brought the documents they need to complete their transaction.”

People who do not have computer access should call the MVD Customer Service Center toll free at 1-866-450-8034 to schedule an appointment.
