Memorial Fund for Family of Fallen Trooper Established, People May Donate Online
HELENA – A group of former and current Montana Highway Patrol troopers has established a memorial fund for the family of fallen Trooper David DeLaittre, and the Montana Department of Justice has launched a website where people may donate to the fund online.
Trooper DeLaittre, of Three Forks, was shot and killed in a shoot-out Dec. 1 while responding to a traffic stop near his hometown. He had stopped to investigate a pick-up truck idling in the middle of the road. The driver of the truck, Errol Brent Bouldin, 56, opened fire on DeLaittre and the two exchanged shots. Bouldin later took his own life, although an investigation revealed he likely would have died from the wounds sustained in the shoot-out.
DeLaittre, a fifth-generation Montana law enforcement agent, leaves behind his parents, two younger sisters and a beloved step-sister.
The Association of Montana Troopers, a group of current and former Montana Highway Patrol officers dedicated to the welfare of state troopers, established the David DeLaittre Memorial Fund to benefit DeLaittre’s family. The fund is set up at First Security Bank in Three Forks.
The Montana Department of Justice, which oversees the Montana Highway Patrol, has created a website where people may donate securely online.
