Bullock Statement Regarding USSC Order Leaving Ninth Circuit Stay in Place in Montana’s Campaign Contribution Limits Case

The following statement is attributable to Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock, regarding the order issued today by the US Supreme Court, declining American Tradition Partnership’s request to lift the stay issued by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Lair v Murry. The Ninth Circuit had previously ordered that Montana’s campaign contribution limits for individuals, political parties and political action committees remain in place, and the USSC has decided that the Ninth Circuit’s order should remain in place:

The US Supreme Court’s ruling confirms that American Tradition Partnership’s latest ploy had no merit, and is a blow to the moneyed interests that want to sway our elections for their own ends. I believe Montana’s elections should belong to the people, not to the corporations hiding behind ATP’s cloak. As Attorney General, my office won’t give up the fight to keep Montana elections clean and fair.
